He needed a crown and was at risk for nerve impingement.

This particular tooth was on the verge of causing a big problem (and a lot of pain as well as potential expense). When I told him he needed a crown right away, he nonchalantly responded, Oh, I just like to treat things as they hurt. Before strengthening my own leadership skills, I would have let the conversation end there and let Greg leave my office without the care he needed. But I was able to read beyond his casual remarks and recognize a serious problem.
