Get Your Wheels Ready For Winter

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Depending on where you are living, you may need to do some extra things to your car to prepare for winter driving. Wintertime can bring concerns for your vehicle, which are usually considerably different, especially where the winter is severe. There may be less intervention with brand new cars, but they still have to have some preparation. It can save you a substantial amount of money if you decide to apply all of these tips, or at least some of them.

Tire pressure is important to watch always, but in the winter tires get deflated simply because of the cold. You’ll get better fuel economy when your tire has the perfect pressure, and it will give you a less chance of getting a flat tire. Never let your gasoline tank get less than a quarter of a tank. Originally this was done on older vehicles to make sure there were no frozen gas lines, but it is not as common with newer vehicles. You should keep enough fuel in the tank, in case you become stranded. In addition to that, it is best to carry an emergency package, which has cold weather gear such as gloves and hats. You should also have jumper cables, flashlight, flares and basic tools.

Well before winter arrives, have each one of your fluids checked, because some of them are affected by the conditions found during winter. You certainly have to check your air conditioning, especially when residing in a place the temperatures get below freezing. Typically a lot of the expensive engine breakdowns originate from cooling system failures. Verify the antifreeze levels routinely throughout the winter. You must also include non-freezing liquid for your windscreen washer. If your battery is getting a bit old, you may want to have it looked at before it becomes an issue during the winter. The above really only just starts to scratch the surface of what is offered concerning wheels. What I have found is it really just depends on your goals and needs as it relates to your particular situation. Even though it is important to everybody concerned, there are important variables you should keep in mind. Specifically how they effect what you do is one thing you need to carefully think about. Here are several more equally important highlights on this important topic. You should also check to see if there is any corrosion around the battery terminals to avoid false starts. The lifetime of your electric battery can be cut short as a result of extreme cold of winter. And make certain you have jumper cables easily available in your car.

You may also want to get an oil change even if you have some time. When it comes to an older car or truck, you may want to use a light weight oil to keep elements lubricated in the cold weather. More recent cars already use lighter oil so it is not an issue. It’s also possible to want to upgrade your wiper blades for the cold weather as well. All of these new blades help keep your windshield cleaner from the ice and slush, and clean windows are important. You should have decent traction in the wintertime, so get your snow tires on. At a minimum utilize a superior all season radial tire.

You should definitely get this accomplished before the winter weather hits. If you put it off too long you may get stuck in an early winter storm. You might as well beat the rush, which happens every year. Discover more suv wheels.
